Star Victorian trainers Ciaron Maher and Dave Eustace have been fined $7500 for presenting a horse to race with a prohibited substance in its system. The matter was finalised at the Victorian Racing Tribunal on Tuesday and Piccatric was also disqualified from her win at Sale on February 28.

The filly returned a positive swab to Furosemide which is a diuretic. Furosemide is a normal treatment for racehorse but is not allowed in a horse’s system on raceday.

The stable had previously insisted that an internal review "led to a clear finding that human error led to the treatment of Piccatric with Furosemide, instead of the intended horse Stardayz." That was accepted by the VRT on Tuesday.

Maher and Eustace issued the following statement via social media.
